Information

The new Plastics Packaging Tax will come into force on the 1st April 2022.

Part one of the legislation reached Royal Assent as part of the Finance Act 2021, draft secondary legislation was published on the 20th July and will be under consultation until the 20th August 2021. We expect further guidance to be published later in the year.

ALL companies who manufacture or import plastic packaging will require additional administrative processes to monitor their volumes.

Any companies manufacturing or importing over 10 tonnes will also have to register and pay the Plastic Packaging Tax.

This legislation will impact the UK Label Industry, particularly as 'printing' has now been confirmed as one of the 'significant changes' to the packaging that will trigger PPT.

The BPIF held a well-attended webinar on the 22nd July to inform the wider Packaging Industry on what is currently known about the legislation, some of you may have attended that webinar and noted lots of questions were raised.

BPIF Labels now invite you to participate in a round table discussion to highlight the potential issues this legislation will bring specifically to the UK Label Industry.

This information will then be used to form an official consultation response to Part Two of the legislation and enable us to make enquiries to HMRC who will be responsible for collecting the tax post introduction.

The Labels sector need to be prepared, please do register here to take part in the discussion:-
