Food-grade plastics in the EU: recycling challenges, DRS and EPR

A recent article in Recycling Today reported on some of the challenges in the supply of food-grade recycled plastics. According to it, PET is the most widely available polymer recyclate for food contact applications, while polyolefins (PE and PP) are lagging far behind. Of the recycled polymers in the EU, only 10% are food-grade.

BPIF Labels – Plastic Packaging Tax Consultation

The new tax is planned for introduction in April 2022. The HMRC consultation on stage two of the legislation closed on the 17th of August. BPIF Labels has entered a response to HMRC on behalf of the UK Label Industry.

The primary legislation for this has already been passed and the government has just published further guidance to businesses and announced a consultation period on secondary legislation which runs from the 20th of July to the 17th of August. This legislation will impact on the label industry, and it is essential businesses prepare for the introduction of the tax.
Coronavirus (COVID-19): jobs that qualify for travel exemptions

If you are travelling to England, you must:
- book any coronavirus (COVID-19) tests or quarantine hotel you will need after arrival
- provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test before you travel
- provide contact details by completing the online passenger locator form
- follow the testing and quarantine rules on arrival in England
Some people are exempt from some or all COVID-19 travel and entry requirements because of their job.
This guidance lists the jobs that qualify for an exemption and tells you:
- what you need to do, or not do
- any conditions you will need to meet or evidence you will need to show
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
