Plastics Packaging Tax

Plastics Packaging Tax

The UK government will introduce a plastics packaging tax in April next year. The primary legislation for this has already been passed and the government has just published further guidance to businesses and announced a consultation period on secondary legislation which runs from the 20th of July to the 17th of August.  This legislation will impact on the label industry, and it is essential businesses prepare for the introduction of the tax.  It will be important for businesses to keep sound records to be able to comply with the tax, make payments, or prove they are not liable for the tax.

BPIF Labels is working with BPIF Cartons, the BPIF and other Associations to identify issues, raise concerns and identify answers to case specific questions.  Clearly there is great interest and concern demonstrated by the record response to the recent webinar attended by over 140 members.

If you have specific questions or concerns about the tax, please email them to [email protected].  These will be collated across the BPIF and included where appropriate in a co-ordinated consultation response.  Please send your views and enquiries by the 10th of August, so we have time to take them into account in our official consultation response.
